3 Activities to Help You Embrace Change & Thrive

As autumn brings in the changing of the seasons, it's the perfect time to reflect on our own life transitions. Change can be scary, but it doesn’t have to be. The seasons teach us how to embrace change and flow with the rhythm of life. Here are 3 activities that can help you embrace change this fall.

Try New Experiences

Instead of running from change, try facing it head on. Step out of your comfort zone and try something new! Whether it's a new hobby, a different type of exercise, or exploring a new place, these experiences can help you adapt to change and discover new aspects of yourself. As you recognize your ability to adapt to something new, you’ll become more confident as you handle new tasks or changes in the future. Trying new things is also beneficial for your brain as it encourages neuroplasticity- the brain's ability to form new neural connections. Neuroplasticity allows your brain to stay flexible, creative, and adapt to change. What new experience can you give your brain this fall?

Walking Nature Meditation

Fall is the perfect time for getting outdoors after a sweltering summer! Go for leisurely nature walks in local parks or your own neighborhood to immerse yourself in the changing environment. As you walk, take the opportunity to reflect on moments of change in your own life you’ve made it through in the past. Consider the aspects of change that excite you, and those that make you feel more anxious. Allow nature you see around you to guide your thoughts and help you find comfort in the rhythm of change. If it ever feels too overwhelming to think about the past, bring yourself back into the present moment by tuning in to your senses: Notice what you hear, see, can touch, and smell around you. Take time to journal about your experience afterward.

Set New Goals

Often when change occurs, it’s easy to focus on that which is lost. It’s important to acknowledge and express those feelings of loss and sadness, but it’s also important to recognize the opportunity for growth. Embrace change as an opportunity for growth by setting new goals or revisiting old ones. Define what you want to achieve in the context of the change and break your goals into manageable steps. This can give you a sense of purpose and direction during transitions.

Remember that embracing change is a process, and it's okay to take your time and seek support when needed. These activities can help you navigate change with greater resilience and an openness to growth.
