What is regulation?
Self-regulation is the ability to manage emotions, impulses, and behaviors. It can look like staying calm during an upsetting moment or taking a minute to respond to an upsetting email rather than acting out of anger or frustration. Self-regulation develops in childhood, but can be hindered if you didn't experience adults modeling healthy self-regulation or helping you cope with your emotions.
