Professional Background

I am Licensed Professional Counselor and have been practicing for 16 years. I specialize in treating adults with Anxiety, Grief, and Trauma. Additionally, I treat relationship issues, life transitions, pregnancy-prenatal-postpartum, premarital-marital-post marital, depression, parenting, and behavioral problems.

My work in the counseling field started in 2006 in the public education system. Through the public education setting I had the privilege to work with children, adolescents, young adults, professional staff, non-profit organizations, and the Department of Education of the United States of America-Behavioral Division. During the 16-year period I provided mental health and behavioral awareness trainings district wide to educators, administrators, school counselors, school social workers, school nurses, campus staff, and parents. One of my primary tasks was to lead a behavioral study through a national program across the district. Through this program, I trained campus staff to implement behavioral interventions that would improve student behaviors, academic achievement, and create an overall positive school environment. While I enjoyed providing trainings and collaborating with district personnel, my greatest fulfillment was providing one-on-one and/or group counseling to high-risk students of all ages ranging from preschool to 12th grade. Working with them from childhood to young adulthood was a difficult task because trauma has no shape or form and shows up at any given time. Albeit difficult, I had the opportunity to counsel and see these young children evolve from their childhood trauma into functional young adults.

After 16 years, I left the public education setting and jumped into private practice with Inner Solace Therapy. As much as I promote receiving mental health therapy to others, I do so myself as well. This is how I met our lead clinician, Valerie Rivera. In the Fall of 2020, I attended a workshop Valerie hosted where I not only learned from but also became intrigued by all that Inner Solace Therapy stands for; by the Fall of 2021, I joined the team at Inner Solace Therapy. Since then, I have had the privilege to work with wonderful clients whom I respect, learn from, and admire. I love my clients and I look forward to seeing them every time we meet. As I continue to serve in private practice through Inner Solace Therapy, I look forward to serving my current and future clients to the best of my abilities and continuing to build deeper therapeutic relationships.

Therapeutic Approach

I acknowledge that entering therapy is never easy. It may have taken a lot from you to take the first step to find this website, and I respect the courage it has taken for you to be here. My approach is to accept you where you are, in a non-judgmental, neutral, nurturing, confidential, and safe zone. My desire for you is to help you reach an optimal way of living, especially regarding your mental and emotional state. Through therapy sessions we will explore your thoughts and emotions to ensure whether your current situation is the root problem, or rather a symptom of the root problem. As we explore, you may feel overwhelmed, sometimes want to quit, but know that this is perfectly normal. I will support you and walk alongside you through your therapeutic journey. Healing is a process, and at times the process is not easy. However, the end result is the discovery of the person you have been yearning for—you!

I specialize in Anxiety, Grief, and Trauma. These are not conditions I would desire upon anyone. All three may be interconnected to some extent and each can individually present itself and shake your world apart. By working with me you will be able to address your current situation through the learning a combination of skills. Once you maneuver through implementing these skills and can apply them, you may decide to continue with routine therapy or graduate from therapy. In either case, both will bring you much joy and fulfillment.
